Throughout his service life at SBI, Pulak Kumar Sinha remained actively involved in various social works, interacting with multiple agencies and a wide cross-section of society. During this period, he nurtured a strong desire to give something back to society. With this intention, he, along with his brother, his wife Tanushree Sinha, friends, and a few colleagues, formed a registered society in 2008. However, due to the nature of his job, activities remained limited and were carried out on a small scale.

After retirement in 2016, Pulak Kumar Sinha and Tanushree Sinha began exploring areas where they could contribute more meaningfully to social welfare. After carefully analysing several options, they decided to focus on caring for people in their old age. The condition of destitute senior citizens, particularly from lower middle-class and poor families in this part of the country, is extremely distressing, as many have neither income nor anyone to care for them.

The initiative (through Happy Home) aims to provide elders with food, clothing, shelter, medical care, and most importantly, a safe and family-like environment. This helps bring a positive transformation in their lives—from uncertainty to security, neglect to care, loneliness to belonging—allowing them to overcome depression, anxiety, and rediscover meaning of life.

While this effort may seem small, it is undertaken with the hope that such a model of care can inspire similar initiatives elsewhere and, subject to available resources, be extended to other locations.
